The guard actually works on this saw no pinning needed. Have used about a dozen CMS, SCMS saws and this is my favorite of all. Keep it simple stupid, and that is what Hitachi has done with this one. The open table design is the only way to go for the trim carpenter. The hitachi 8 1/4 saw is also the best, it however doesnt dual bevel.
The handle grip is not the most comfortable which sounds silly however when you are doing a lot of mitering your hand feels it. The soft start is nice as the saw doesn't jerk when you pull the trigger.
After reading the reviews concerning the Hitachi, seeing it at my local Lowes store (which by the way was 169.00 more expensive) and speaking to my father who is a professional carpenter ,and owns the smaller version of this saw, I decided this one was for me.It arrived in 2 weeks which surprised me.The free shipping offered by amazon was GREAT. It came well packaged and nothing was missing ,bent or broken.
Hi everyone, This saw was a replacement to my dewalt 12 double bevel saw.I had considered getting the dewalt 12in slider however I simply could not justify the cost. I can make a 12 3/8 cut with no problems.
It took little less than 1/2 hr to pull it from the box and made ready for action. One thing I didn't take into consideration when buying this was the additional space required.Compared to the Dewalt it needed a min of 6 more inches of bench space so keep this in mind. The slide is smooth and pulls easy.
I haven't changed the blade yet so I can't comment there however I don't see any place to store the tools on the saw.Things I don't like. Also I hate the safety switch that needs to be depressed however a small strip of gorilla tape fixed that issue.I also wish the aux fence had come with the saw rather than sold as a option. So over all this is a excellent saw for the money and I'm delighted I have bought it.regards,Ray
I do think it's a great saw, though. I agree that a "D" handle would have been much more comfortable.I bought it at $439, but got a refund for the difference when it dropped to $349.
Amazon shipped me a replacement overnight. The saw seems great. Arrived with some deep scratches on the base near the miter adjustments.
Nice miter controls. Stock blade is almost good enough for finish work. The dual bevel adjustment seems a little haphazard.
The dust bag is junk but does a decent job collecting roughly 2/3 the dust.Everything else seems fine to me. I would not again pay $439 for it, and definitely would not pay $500+ for it.
Amazon service has been outstanding for me.
Light, accurate, great laser, but this thing just screams. My second Hitachi saw. As a full time carpenter, I've used this saw day in and day out for 2 years. You'll really need hearing protection when using it all day. It's not an issue with the blade. Originally I had the old 8" compound miter saw and used it daily until I finally wore it out after 10+ years. Bought this one as a replacement. I use several different blades, it's the electric brake. The soft start is nice and smooth, and not too bad noise wise, but let the trigger go and it really shrieks.Other than that I would certainaly recommend it if you need a good dependable tool.Just expect to say "What." a lot at the end of the day.Might seem to be a silly complaint, but I've had a significant hearing loss after working around power tools for the last 30+ years, so noise levels have become a criteria as important as accuracy and dependability in my book.
and for what it costs, I should love it, but I don't. A couple of colleagues have the 12" Bosch slider, and love it, which at this point I wish I'd bought. It slides smooth, and cuts wide stock.
After two weeks, I still haven't rec'd the replacement, so I can only make cuts from the right side. The table is also pretty small. It came with a bowed left fence.
The blade it came with is good. The right fence is about an inch tall, i.e. TINY.
The saw I'm replacing is a five-year old 12" Dewalt (dual bevel but no slider), which I still prefer, sad to say(bigger table and fences). Anybody want my Hitachi 10" slider.
